I learned a lot from the recent Buncombe 34 mile race. Now I need to act on them.
I lanced a nice big blister on the back of my right foot and it is fine now. One big thing I learned:
Wear decent socks and trail shoes...
While I think my Saucony Pro Grid Rides did a great job on the trail - the bottoms of my tender feet would like to disagree! Those shoes are made for road running, but to be fair I think they held up pretty good over the rocks and stumps. My short cut cool max socks was another lesson learned. I now have a little poison ivy on my ankles and I had to stop and shake crap out of my socks three different times.
I drove down to Run In in Greenville, SC to get properly fitted for some new trail shoes. I can't say enough good things about the folks in this place. The store is always full of shoppers and for good reason. The service is unreal. I would bet you your next race entry fee that you could not make it from the front door to the register without someone offering to help you. What made it even better was meeting "Mike" who I ran with at the Buncombe run. He even hooked me up with 10% off this new pair of Saucony Xodus trail shoes! Thanks again! I have yet to try them out, but I am planning on wearing them for a 15 miler this Saturday. I may post a review if the mood hits me.
I also picked up some higher cut cool max socks to keep the itchy stuff & trail crap out of my shoes.
I have been incorporating at lot of trail running these past few weeks. I too have a pair of Saucony ProGrid witch I got from Sports Authority.
